A world first in electron microscopy

The University of Ulster has chosen our PP2000T cryo-SEM Preparation System for their world-leading Bio-Imaging Centre.
Wednesday 25 October saw the opening of the FEI Bio-imaging Centre at the University of Ulster in Coleraine, with a PP2000T installed on an FEI Nova NanoLabT DualBeam microscope for the first time in electron microscopy history.
The DualBeam technique allows the selective ‘milling’ of specimens in a precise way using the Focused Ion Beam (FIB) source of a combined SEM/FIB column to reveal internal specimen structure. The PP2000T plays a crucial role as it allows the specimen to be viewed in a ‘near natural’ state.
Cryo-DualBeam workshops announced

FEI Company and Quorum Technologies have together produced the first dedicated cryo-DualBeam solution. For the first time, site-specific cross-sectional information can be directly obtained from a life science specimen in its native state.

Quorum Technologies acquires Emitech Ltd
April 2005
As of 1 April 2005, Quorum Technologies Ltd has acquired the ongoing business and assets of Emitech Ltd in a friendly acquisition that was supported by the directors of both companies. Emitech will continue to trade under EM Technologies Ltd ownership, a company wholly-owned by Quorum Technologies.
Emitech’s technical specialist, Phil Missing, will join Quorum Technologies’ Board, while former Emitech MD Gareth Robinson will be leaving to pursue his other business interests, though he maintains an interest in the new company going forward.
The new team at Quorum and E.M Technologies will be working hard over the next few months to examine how this new alliance can best serve the EM accessory market. In the short term it really is business as usual!
