Fracture through gill of cultivated mushroom (Agaricus bisporus)

Considerable information about the surface and internal structure of Basidiomycetes can be obtained from frozen specimens. Each basidium projecting from the surface of the gill has two sterigmata, which bear a basidiospore each (arrow).
