New SEM laboratory for Quorum Technologies factory

Quorum Technologies are pleased to announce the installation of an FEI XL40 SEM in their Ringmer factory.
This exciting new facility is fitted with the PP2000T cryo-SEM system and will be supported by other EM preparation products from the Polaron range, including sputter coaters, a carbon coaters and critical point dryers.
The laboratory will be available for customer and distributor demonstrations and training, and as a pivotal tool in the design, development and testing of new Polaron products.

The Polaron Range of EM preparation instruments, which includes sputter coaters, critical point dryers, vacuum evaporators and cryo-SEMs, has changed ownership from Thermo VG Scientific to Quorum Technologies Ltd (see Press Release from November 1st 2001)
The move to new premises at Ringmer has now been successfully accomplished and all enquiries should be directed to us at this address.

Is this the world’s smallest sputter coater?

This picture dates back to 1977 and shows the original Polaron E5100 "cool" sputter coater. Sitting on top is an exact working replica of the E5100. To give an idea of scale the chamber diameter of the full size E5100 is around 160mm.
This replica was made by Jim Gough, a development engineer at Polaron Equipment Ltd. Jim built the replica in his spare time using his skills as a model engineer.
The replica was a fully working model with operating vacuum gauges and current meter. It was actually operated inside an ISI SEM, producing a visible plasma discharge.
Does anyone know the current whereabouts of this miniature coater?

The five year warranty on the Polaron Range has been extended to cover the CPD7501. All sputter coaters, SEM carbon coaters, critical point dryers and SEM cryo systems are now offered with a five year warranty.

Quorum Technologies have announced a five year warranty deal on the newly created "Blue Riband" range of electron microscopy preparation products. The new extended warranty applies to the Polaron range of sputter coaters, SEM carbon coaters, Horizontal critical point dryers and SEM cryo systems. Mike Wombwell, Polaron Range Business Manager says " over many years the Polaron Range has established a enviable reputation for quality, reliability and durability. In recent years considerable emphasis has also been place on user safety and customer support. We believe that significantly extending warranty terms on these key products, and on future new products, is a vital part of our strategy of putting the customer first".
