CPD7501 Critical Point Drying Apparatus
An explanation of the critical point drying process
CPD7501 critical point dryer with standard 4-element holder fitted |
The CPD 7501 Critical Point Dryer combines versatility and ease of operation. The vertical pressure chamber (30mm diameter. x 37mm high) is slightly inclined for efficient solvent drain-off. The size of the chamber is optimised for minimum CO2 usage, and good drying capacity. The top cap of the unit has a glass window allowing fluid level to be observed. Heating and cooling of the system is achieved with a thermo-electric device. To maintain cooling efficiency, cooling water is recommended to dissipate heat generated by the Peltier module. |
Key features
- Ease of operation
- Magnetic stirrer -ensures efficient exchange of fluids.
- Built in temperature control system - eliminates the need for hot running water and speeds cooling for refill. Controlled heating also means saved operator time because it is not necessary to "watch over" the process during heating
- Fine vent valve and graduated flow meter - precise control of decompression and avoids potential damage to specimens by uncontrolled pressure release
- Easy to operate valves light finger pressure only is need to open and close
- Stainless steel enclosed mesh baskets mesh of sample holders traps a small amount of dehydrating fluid during transfer into the CPD chamber. This is enough to prevent samples from drying out prior to the introduction of liquid carbon dioxide. There is no need to pour fluid directly into the chamber.
- Four element stacking holder as standard - chamber can easily be extended to take the optional eight element stacking holder
- Safe operation every CPD7501 critical point dryer is independently pressure tested to 2,500psi and a pressure certificate issued. The CPD7501 is fitted with a safety bursting disc.
The CPD7501 is fitted with three valves, fluid inlet, flushing and a gas
venting system which uses a fine needle valve in series with a graduated flow
valve. The gas venting system ensures a controlled timed vent - essential for
optimum sample preservation.
A magnetic stirrer, built into the base of the chamber, ensures thorough mixing
of samples with circulating fluids. The standard specimen holder has four
stacked baskets (25mm diameter. x 5mm high), the bottom one can hold the
magnetic stirring rod. For very small specimens CPD800A porous pots are
available (see options).
Each CPD7501 critical point dryer is pressure tested at an independent laboratory and carries an appropriate certificate. To ensure safety a bursting disc is fitted.
