PP2000/PP2000T Pumping System
The standard PolarPrep PP2000 system utilises a single rotary pump to evacuate the preparation chamber and sample transfer air-lock. To achieve the lowest levels of contamination and vacuum compatibility required by modern Field Emission SEM, the PolarPrep PP2000T is fitted with a purpose built turbomolecular pumping system to ensure clean, vibration free operation.
PP2000 pumping
The PP2000 is rotary pumped. A pumping stack, including a high-mass steel base, ensures any vibration from the rotary pump is eliminated.
PP2000T turbo pumping
The pumping stack (below) holds the turbomolecular pump, valves
and connections to the "backing" rotary pump and to the
preparation chamber. The high-mass steel base ensures elimination
of vibration. The
turbomolecular pump is connected to the back of the PP2000T chamber by
flexible stainless steel bellows. The turbomolecular pump is backed by
a 90l/m two-stage rotary pump.
Having the turbomolecular pump away from the SEM ensures elimination of mechanical
vibration. It also means that the mass and size of the preparation chamber
is kept to a minimum.
