Shaping carbon rods
We strongly recommend the use of carbon rods with ‘stepped’ profiles. Tapered (pencil-like) profile rods can be used, but have two practical disadvantages over ‘stepped’ profile carbon rods:* Electric resistance (and therefore evaporation characteristics) changes during evaporation
* During evaporation (if an FTM is not fitted) it is harder to estimate how much carbon has been evaporated from a tapered carbon rod. With ‘stepped’ profile carbon rods, an end point is reached when the entire first step has been evaporated
Storing carbon fibre and carbon rods
Carbon fibre and carbon rods should be stored in a clean, dry environment - if possible under vacuum or in a sealed vessel with an appropriate desiccating agent.Additional Information
