Introduction to Cryo- Scanning Electron Microscopy and the PP3010
Cryo-SEM is a versatile technique used to preserve samples in their near-native state for imaging and analysis, by the rapid freezing
of samples at cryo temperatures (≤ -150 °C). The technique allows the study of high-moisture content samples, without introducing
artifacts and structural damage associated with drying techniques such as chemical drying and freeze drying.
This technical note aims to provide a general overview of the process of cryo-SEM, explain the importance of the technique and
demonstrate the wide array of samples that can be studied using this approach.
