The SEM image shows the surface of a petal from a daffodil (Narcissus). The sample was prepared by fixation in 2.5 % glutaraldehyde (24 h), followed by washing with pH 7.4 phosphate buffer solution (3 x 1 h). The sample was transferred to ethanol through a series of dilutions (25 %, 50 %, 75 %, 95 %, 100 %), and dried using the K850 critical point dryer. The sample was coated in 10 nm Cr using the TurboQ ES and imaged in a Zeiss LEO Gemini 1525 FEG-SEM.
